Ok this is crazy. Rumor has it that if Weissman wins the primary then the entire endorsed  Democratic slate will pull out and refuse to run with Weissman as her under ticket. This does not help John or Dina and in fact it does not help Thompson who is a Democrat and would like to have Democrats win the other seats so that he can have his own party in power if he wins. In many ways it makes the Democratic party look like fools and destroys any possible blame they could place at the feet of Thompson ( Democrat running as an independent) if the politically incompetent Mayor Anthony Staffieri manages to lie his way back into office. This sets up a blood bath within the party come January when the town committee is up for re-election. Who will run the party? Not those who refused to honor their commitment to run come hell or high water (or Dina). This strengthens the Republican Party and could mean the real possibility that a third party develops in Derby in 2008. Even if this rumor is just that I predict a third party and a continued split in the Democratic party in Derby for at least the next 10 years. There are many angry people who are so greedy that the possibility of power has blinded them to the damage that is already done to the party. Look at all of the independents who are in the race this year, do you think that this is not going to repeat itself in 2009 and 2011? It will go on for a long time because the power structure of both parties is corrupt plain and simple and refuse to let people in with ideas. I sometime think that the dumber you are the better chance you have to get the nomination for mayor.  The only good thing is that democracy will be thriving in Derby and for that we can all be thankful.
